Every year, February 7 marks National Send a Card to a Friend Day, a special occasion dedicated to celebrating the friendships that enrich our lives. This day is an invitation for us all to take a moment to honor our friends, family, mentors, and anyone who has left a positive impact on our journey.

Sending a simple greeting card or letter can speak volumes, letting someone know they are in your thoughts and reminding them of their importance in your life. It’s a heartfelt gesture that can transform a regular day into something special.

I recall November 2025, when I took the time to write a handwritten letter to Mike Carver, a key figure in my early career in the medical sales industry. Mike was the first person to welcome me as I transitioned from college to the professional realm. In my letter, I expressed profound gratitude for his belief in my abilities and the opportunities he had opened up for me. I wanted him to know the significant impact he had on my professional growth, teaching me the ins and outs of a business he had dedicated his life to. Without his guidance, I knew my path would have been drastically different.

When Mike received my letter, he texted me, overwhelmed by my words. It was evident that my gesture made a meaningful impression on him. Little did I know that four months later, I would be attending his memorial service, mourning his sudden passing from a heart attack. This reality struck a chord deep within me as I reflected on the importance of expressing gratitude.

Today, as we lay my friend and mentor to rest, I feel an immense sense of gratitude for taking that moment to thank him. It's a reminder of how crucial it is to express our feelings to the people who matter most to us while we still have the chance.

This National Send a Card to a Friend Day, I encourage you to reflect on those in your life for whom you are grateful. Is it a family member, a coworker, a teacher, or perhaps a coach? Take the time to slow down and write them a handwritten note, letter, or card. Let them know how much they mean to you.

This simple act of kindness will not only uplift them but will also strengthen the bond you share. Handwritten communication gives you the "power of the pen" to express your appreciation and love.

So, the question remains: Will you use that power today?
